Purpose of the catalogue
The EHOCE Public Domain Literature Library exists to make public-domain poetry and verse freely accessible and discoverable. This catalogue provides bibliographic records, curated categories, and editorial notes to help readers navigate a collection of 95 works. The goal is practical: to offer enough context for a reader to decide whether to explore a text further, without substituting for the experience of reading the original.
Scope and selection
The library currently includes 95 works, all in English, sourced from Project Gutenberg. Selection is guided by the catalogue project's interest in poetry, verse drama, and literary criticism from the 18th to early 20th centuries. No single genre or period is exhaustively covered; the collection reflects available public-domain texts rather than a comprehensive canon. Works are not chosen based on popularity, academic endorsement, or commercial potential.
Source attribution
Every book record identifies its publisher—almost always Project Gutenberg—and provides a direct link to the source. Bibliographic data (author, title, dates, keywords) is taken from Project Gutenberg's metadata and reproduced without alteration. We do not host or distribute the texts themselves. Users should verify copyright status in their jurisdiction before downloading.
Bibliographic records
Each record includes the full title, author(s) with birth and death years, publisher, subject keywords, a target reader note, and a catalogue note. The catalogue notes are prepared as supplementary catalogue material and Catalogue maintenance uses source records and bibliographic context. No record claims to represent the entire work; notes are based on excerpts provided in the source data.
Category assignment
Works are assigned to one of four categories based on the catalogue project's reading of their catalogue notes and keywords. The categories are: Adventure Picaresque Fiction, Fantasy Juvenile Worlds, Science Fiction Utopias, and Historical Psychological Social Fiction. These are navigation aids, not definitive literary judgments. A work's category may not reflect its original catalog label (e.g., a book labeled 'Adventure & Picaresque Fiction' that contains poetry about domestic life). Users should always consult the catalogue note for actual content.
Editorial reading context
Editor the catalogue provides catalogue notes based on excerpts supplied by Project Gutenberg. These excerpts are typically the opening pages, sample poems, or representative passages. The notes identify patterns, contrasts, and notable features, but they do not constitute a full critical analysis. No claim is made that any book was read in its entirety. the catalogue project's perspective is that of an informed general reader, not a subject specialist.
Edition facts and text measurements
For each work, we note the publication year of the edition used (as provided by Project Gutenberg) and the original publication date where available. Text measurements such as poem count, line count, or section divisions are mentioned in catalogue notes only when evident from the excerpts. We do not provide word counts or page numbers unless supplied in the source data.
Recommendations and related works
Each category guide recommends three books with concrete reasons tied to the work's content and structure. Recommendations are not endorsements of quality but suggestions for readers to begin exploring a category. Related works may be mentioned in catalogue notes when a clear thematic or formal connection exists. No recommendation is based on external reviews or popularity metrics.
Corrections and reader reports
We encourage readers to report errors or inconsistencies. Contact editor EHOCE Catalogue via the contact page. Corrections will be reviewed and applied as appropriate. We do not maintain a public errata list but update records silently. No legal or peer-review process is implied.
Public-domain limitations
All texts are in the public domain in the United States. Copyright status in other countries may vary; users are responsible for compliance with local laws. We do not guarantee that every work is free of copyright restrictions worldwide. The catalogue does not include works still under copyright in the U.S. or elsewhere.
Accessibility and readable presentation

Independence and editorial responsibility
The library is an independent project by EHOCE Catalogue, who serves as catalogue project. It is not affiliated with Project Gutenberg, any university, or any commercial entity. This catalogue does not claim peer review, legal certification, professional librarian credentials, or guaranteed copyright status. It does not assert that every book was read in full, nor that the categories are comprehensive or definitive.
